Landscape and African American Cemeteries

I ran across this interesting website recently on African American Cemeteries.  All of these plants are found growing in Evergreen.  “Many of the African-American cemetery landscapes in this project are characterized by profuse plantings (including yucca plants, tree-of-heaven, daffodils, periwinkle, cedar trees, and clusters of perennials).”

I have also come across rose bushes and a thick layer of English Ivy.  Perhaps some day the site will be clear enough to do landscape restoration work and study the historic plantings in the burial plots.   As the seasons change and volunteers continue to clean up the cemetery from years of neglect, there are historical discoveries just waiting to be made!
